TERRA SOLAMENTE TERRA | LAND, JUST LAND The Marches is a region of central
Italy, rich in history and culture. A land of hardworking, shy and reserved people, a
region of rare beauty, even for an Italian used to living in the constant presence of monuments,
historical sites and beautiful landscapes. The Marches have a long artistic tradition
(Raffaello Sanzio, Rossini, Leopardi, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi) and a deep agricultural
tradition. These two features have meant that the Marchese farmers have worked the territory
so intensively as to turn it into an extraordinary open air work of art.
Le Marche sono una regione del
centro Italia, ricca di storia e di cultura. Una terra operosa, schiva e riservata ma di una
bellezza rara, anche per un italiano abbituato a vivere nella continua presenza di monumenti e
vestigia storiche. Le marche hanno una lunga tradizione artistica (Raffaello Sanzio, Rossini,
Leopardi, Giovan Battista Pergolesi) e una profonda vocazione agricola. Queste due caratteristiche
hanno fatto sì che i contadini marchigiani abbiano lavorato, cosi intensamente ed in un modo cosi
capilare, il territorio, da averlo trasformato in una straordinaria opera d'arte a cielo aperto.

STATEMENT
This work is prompted by a year of uninterrupted travel throughout the
territory of the Marches: more than 30,000 kilometers and tens of hours
of walking along the roads of the region, observing the extraordinary
spectacle of this interaction between man and nature, in search of those
views filled with the extraordinary, absolutely
poetic, ordinary.
All the work is a direct expression of the synthesis of two major themes: The extraordinary moments of ordinary
daily life and the artistic transformation of this reality. Every moment of our lives is extraordinary
but often we do not realize it; everywhere, at all times, there is a rich opportunity for formal abstraction that brings forth the poetry of these moments.
For more than thirty years, these two issues have accompanied all of
my photographic research, which has been
made privately, quietly and with great sacrifice, because living in Italy
is to live in a country that despite its enormous debt to art, has no
respect for art, artists and culture.
Questo lavoro nasce da un'anno ininterrotto di viaggi lungo tutto il territorio delle Marche, piu
di 30.000 chilometri percorsi e decine di ore passate a camminare lungo le strade della regione
contemplando lo straordinario spettacolo di questa interazione uomo-natura, alla ricerca di quegli
scorci che potessero rappresentare pienamente la straordinarieta di un'ordinario assolutamente
poetico. Tutto il lavoro e espressione diretta della sintesi di due grandi temi : La
straordinarieta dei momenti ordinari quotidiani e la trasfigurazione segnica della realta. Ogni
istante della nostra esistenza e straordinario ma spesso non ce ne rendiamo conto e ovunque c'e
un'intensa possibilita di astrazione formale. E questi due temi sono cosi importanti per me che
hanno accompagnato tutta la mia ricerca fotografica, che dura ormai da piu di trent'anni, realizzata
privatamente, in silenzio e con grandi sacrifici perche vivere in Italia significa vivere in un
paese, che pur dovendo tutto all'arte non ha nessun rispetto per l'arte, gli artisti e la cultura.
