In fact the month began quietly, two Yellow-Browed Warblers on 2nd being the result of some rather indifferent weather. Strong northerlies on 3rd livened things up, particularly at sea, where 11 Long-tailed Skuas, 37 Pomarine Skuas and a Sabine's Gull were forced to move past the Brigg. Next day another Long-tailed Skua went north and a first winter Glaucous Gull flew south. The 5th saw a Slavonian Grebe flying north, while single Yellow-browed and Barred Warblers were found at the dams. Light south-westerlies put a damper on the next few days, but as the winds became more southerly on 9th, Filey suddenly changed...into Fair Isle! |
