Many of the Biblical figures are carved from individuals from the Cathedral's neighborhood: a Tibetan woman was the model for Hagar, a figure from Hebrew Scripture who was banished from her country; John the Baptist was a homeless man who often begged in front of the Cathedral; Noah is modeled after the retired Dean of the Cathedral, The Very Reverend James Parks Morton, and Deborah, after his wife Pamela.Daniel Alcide (above) - a strongly religious young man who at the time worked in the Cathedral Shop -- is Verity's model for the statue, Daniel.
