David Hlynsky was born in the US in 1947. He moved to Toronto in 1971 to join the staff of The Coach House Press, a prestigious Canadian literary publisher. There he began editing a photographic periodical entitled image nation and continued this work until 1984. He has contributed visual design to projects in theatre and childrens' television. He has twice been awarded the highest personal visual arts "A" grant from the Canada Council. He has produced eleven public art commissions involving photography or sculpture, six of them in collaboration with partner, Shirley Yanover. He currently teaches photographic theory and digital design at Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario and at the University of Toronto, Scarborough.
