Jerry Berndt grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His photographs appear in major magazines in Europe and the United States. He has received three Massachusetts Foundation Fellowships, a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Arts Fellowship in 1987, and three Massachusetts Arts and Humanities Grants to complete photographic projects. He has taught photography at the Art Institute of Boston and University of Massachusetts, Boston.

His photgraphs are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art,New York City; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; The Muserum of Fine Art, Houston, Texas; International Center of Photography, New York City; FNAC Galleries Photo, Paris, France; the Bibliotheque National, Paris, France.

An Exhibition of his photographs concerning the religious and political life of Los Angeles called "The Politics of the Spirit" will open at the Los Angeles Public Library on April 6, 1997.

He currently lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts.



I work with 2 Leica rangefinders, and a bunch of old Olympus cameras. The film is Kodak Tri-X, or P-3200. Work prints made on Ilford Multigrade Deluxe, pearl finish. . .exhibition prints made on Multigrade Ilford paper, gloss finish.
